Olivine (Peridot)

Olivine (Peridot)

Olivine, commonly known as peridot or chrysolite, is a striking green gemstone that ranges in color from deep, vibrant green to golden-green and warm olive tones. Unlike other green gemstones, peridot is instantly recognizable for its distinctive glow and soft, inviting hues.

The finest olivines are sourced from Myanmar, where Burmese peridots are prized for their vivid, nuanced green shades that often blend hints of gold and olive. These high-quality stones, especially those with minimal inclusions, are considered the most valuable. While flawless peridots are exceptionally rare, well-cut specimens with rich, intense color command strong demand in the market. Pakistan is another notable source, producing peridots with a more pronounced yellow undertone.

Characteristics of olivine

The depth of green in an olivine directly influences its value. Peridots with a rich, golden-green hue are the rarest and most sought-after, while those with an apple-green or classic olive shade are also highly regarded in fine jewelry. In contrast, stones with stronger yellow tones tend to be less expensive and may appear less vibrant when set. Proper cutting is essential to maximizing peridot’s natural brilliance, ensuring that its color is fully expressed.

Olivines at SORA

At SORA, only the highest-quality Burmese olivines are used in our collections. Their distinctive olive-green tones feature prominently in the Daily Gems and Lens collections. Peridot plays a special role in the Olive Grove ensemble from the Spheres collection, where its rich, warm green evokes the lush foliage of olive trees, while the golden radiance of pearls and precious metals mirrors the soft glow of sunlight.
