Tahitian pearl

Tahitian pearls are among the rarest and most valuable pearls in the world, produced by the Pinctada margaritifera cumingi, commonly known as the black-lipped oyster. What sets this remarkable mollusk apart is the deep black interior of its shell, which beautifully complements the dark edge of its mantle tissue.

In the wild, the black-lipped oyster can live for up to 30 years, grow to a diameter of 30 cm, and reach a weight of around 5 kg, making it one of the largest pearl-producing mollusks. These unique characteristics contribute to the exceptional quality and captivating allure of Tahitian pearls.

The heart of Tahitian pearl cultivation lies in French Polynesia, nestled in the South Pacific Ocean. This region's five archipelagos offer perfect conditions for nurturing these unique black marine pearls.

Tahitian pearls are celebrated for their impressive range of sizes and shades. They typically measure between 8 to 17 mm, with the most common sizes falling within the 11 to 13 mm range. Pearls exceeding 15 mm are considered exceptionally rare and are highly prized for their scarcity and beauty.

Despite their name, Tahitian "black" pearls exhibit a stunning spectrum of colors, ranging from deep ink blues to vibrant greens and rich bronzes. This diverse palette enhances their value, particularly when matched as pairs, showcasing their versatility and allure in fine jewelry.
