White South Sea pearl

White South Sea pearl

The Pinctada maxima oyster, native to the tropical waters of the Indian and Pacific Oceans, is the natural source of South Sea pearls. This mollusk can grow up to 30 cm in diameter, thriving in regions such as Australia, Myanmar, Indonesia, the Philippines, and Japan. The silver-lipped variety of Pinctada maxima creates pearls in a delicate palette of silver-pink, white, and creamy tones, renowned for their exceptional size and lustrous beauty.

Like other saltwater oysters, the South Sea pearl oyster contains a bead nucleus, with the cost of a high-quality 18 mm nucleus reaching up to $1,000. This is just one of many reasons why premium saltwater pearls command such high prices.

South Sea pearls are renowned for their impressive size, soft, luxurious luster, and thick nacre. These pearls, ranging in hue from silvery-white to creamy, are highly prized for their exceptional size, the limited habitat of the oysters, and their extended growth period. These unique factors contribute to their status as the most valuable of all cultured pearls.

Adding to their rarity, only a small percentage of South Sea pearls achieve a perfectly round shape, making necklaces with consistently matched round pearls exceptionally rare and treasured.
